What does a ductless heat pump cost?

A single zone ductless heat pump typically costs between $4.5K and $6K, while a multi-zone ductless heat pump starts at about $7.5K. How much you end up paying depends, in part, on the location of your outdoor unit. The greater the distance between your outdoor unit and indoor unit - the more you’ll pay.

The reason is that copper (and other things) connect the outdoor unit and indoor unit. Copper is relatively expensive, so the more copper you need, the more you’ll pay for your ductless heat pump.

Energy Trust of Oregon

If you heat your home with electricity from PGE or Pacific Power, you can get a $500 cash incentive from the Energy Trust of Oregon. How much energy does a ductless heat pump save?

The answer depends on how you currently heat your home. If you have resistance electric heating - like baseboard electric, cadet wall heaters, or an electric furnace - the U.S. Department of Energy estimates that you’ll save about fifty percent on your heating bills.

How does a ductless heat pump operate so much more efficiently? Like your refrigerator, a ductless heat pump uses electricity to move heat from a cool space to a warm space, making the cool space cooler and the warm space warmer. Because it moves heat rather than generates heat, a ductless heat pump operates much more efficiently than a conventional electric heating system. When properly installed, a ductless heat pump can deliver one and a half to three times more heat energy to a home than the electrical energy it consumes.
